Leathers

We purchase most all of our leather (and many other supplies) from Makers Leather Supply, a veteran owned Texas business. We use allot of Crazy horse leather (for the exceptional pull up, characteristics and well worn look). When it comes to our Veg tanned leather we use only Hermann Oak leather for its long standing reputation of quality, its ability to tool well and accept dye evenly.

Hardware

Our buckles, D rings and trigger snaps are all solid brass for its durability and corrosion resistance. Our rivets are solid copper made by C.S. Osborne.

Loxx Fasteners

On our bags (models requiring fasteners), we use LOXX fasteners. They are an easy open easy close fastener that is durable and secure.

Dyes

We exclusively use Fiebing's leather dyes, antique finishes.

Paints

Angelus is our go to for acrylic leather paints for those projects that need that bright pop of color.

Burnishing solution

Martins Mix, (another family owned Texas small business), is my absolute go to. It leaves the edges of leather smooth and glossy.

Thread

Our hand stitching thread also comes from Makers Leather Supply. Thread is waxed and braided (not twisted). Our machine thread Is also a Maker Leather product. It is a bonded nylon thread made to very high standards.

Waxed Canvas

We exclusively use Halley Stevensons 18 oz. waxed canvas. It is know for its durability, water and abrasion resistance.

Leather Care

With the proper care leather can last generations and be passed down as a family heirloom or keepsake. We have a set of Pops old homemade spur straps on our mantle that we wouldn't trade for a million dollars.

Smooth leathers

When it comes to smooth leathers we suggest using a light coat of Four G's Leather Conditioner & Preservative. The best way to apply is by hand and let your body heat melt the conditioner. A little goes a long way so start with a small amount and work into leather. Once conditioned buff to a nice matte finish and allow 6 - 24 hours for leather to return to its original condition.

Tooled leather

Our tooled leather can also be conditioned and treated with Four G's Leather Conditioner & preservative. As before use a small amount applied by hand and wipe off excess. Buff to a matte finish. Allow 6 - 24 hours for leather to return to its natural color.

Canvas (Duck Cloth)

Canvas can be spot cleaned by hand.

Waxed Canvas

Waxed canvas is naturally water and stain resistant, however accidents do happen and cleaning may be necessary. If this is the case spot clean by hand and re wax cleaned area with Halley Stevensons reproofing wax. Never iron or steam waxed canvas.

How often to condition leather?

This depends greatly on how often the product is used and what it is used for. A wallet carried daily, or a knife sheath constantly exposed to the elements, spur straps or work boots we suggest once per season (4 times a year). If it is a bag used occasionally and treated well once a year should be sufficient.

Four G's Leather Conditioner & Preservative

Always test on a small inconspicuous part of leather first. May temporarily darken leather but will return to natural color within 6 - 24 hours. Remember less is more, a little goes a long way.
